REPUBLIC ACT NO. 1078

REPUBLIC ACT NO. 1078 - AN ACT AUTHORIZING THE SECRETARY OF FINANCE TO PURCHASE, ON BEHALF OF THE GOVERNMENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF THE PHILIPPINES NINETEEN THOUSAND THREE HUNDRED SIXTY-FIVE SHARES OF THE CAPITAL STOCK OF THE MANILA RAILROAD COMPANY OF THE PHILIPPINE ISLANDS, AND TO PROVIDE FUNDS FOR PAYING THE VALUE OF SAID SHARES

Section 1. The Secretary of Finance with the approval of the President of the Philippines, is hereby authorized to subscribe for and purchase on behalf of the Government of the Republic of the Philippines Nineteen Thousand three hundred sixty-five shares of the capital stock of the Manila Railroad Company of the Philippine Islands, of the par value of three million eight hundred seventy-three thousand pesos.

Section 2. The Manila Railroad Company of the Philippine Islands shall expend these funds for the acquisition of new equipment or rolling stock essential to operation, and for the improvement of its warehousing facilities.

Section 3. The sum of three million eight hundred seventy-three thousand pesos is hereby appropriated out of any funds in the National Treasury, not otherwise appropriated.

Section 4. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.

REPUBLIC ACT NO. 1077

REPUBLIC ACT NO. 1077 - AN ACT AUTHORIZING THE PURCHASE OF CERTAIN SHARES OF CAPITAL STOCK OF THE MANILA RAILROAD COMPANY OF THE PHILIPPINE ISLANDS, FOR WHICH THE GOVERNMENT HAS NOT YET SUBSCRIBED UNDER ACT NUMBERED THREE THOUSAND ONE HUNDRED SIXTEEN, AS AMENDED BY ACT NUMBERED THREE THOUSAND FOUR HUNDRED EIGHTY FOUR AND COMMONWEALTH ACT NUMBERED THREE HUNDRED FOURTEEN

Section 1. The Secretary of Finance, with the approval of the President of the Philippines, is hereby authorized to purchase sixteen thousand five hundred forty shares of capital stock of the Manila Railroad Company of the Philippine Islands of the par value of three million three hundred eight thousand pesos, this number of shares not having been subscribed for out of seventy thousand shares which the Government was authorized to subscribe for under Act Numbered Three thousand one hundred sixteen, as amended by Act Numbered Three thousand four hundred eighty four and Commonwealth Act Numbered Three hundred fourteen.

Section 2. The sum of three million three hundred eight thousand pesos is hereby appropriated out of any funds in the National Treasury not otherwise appropriated.

Section 3. The Manila Railroad Company of the Philippine Islands shall expend these funds for the acquisition and/or improvement of its rolling stock and other physical property, as the said funds are in effect a reimbursement of what said Railroad Company had expended out of its own income for the construction of the line connecting Aloneros, Quezon, on the main line south with Pamplona, Camarines, Sur, Legaspi line.

Section 4. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.

REPUBLIC ACT NO. 1867

REPUBLIC ACT NO. 1867 - AN ACT APPROPRIATING THE SUM OF SIX MILLION PESOS ANNUALLY FOR FIVE YEARS AND AUTHORIZING THE ALLOCATION OF TWELVE MILLION PESOS OF REPARATIONS FROM JAPAN ANNUALLY FOR FOUR YEARS FOR THE EXTENSION BY THE MANILA RAILROAD COMPANY OF ITS LINES FROM THE MUNICIPALITY OF SAN JOSE, PROVINCE OF NUEVA ECIJA, TO THE MUNICIPALITY OF TUGUEGARAO, PROVINCE OF CAGAYAN

WHEREAS, by Republic Act Numbered Four hundred seventy, entitled "An Act to authorize the Manila Railroad Company to incur an indebtedness of forty-five million pesos for the rehabilitation, restoration and extension of its lines," approved June nine, nineteen hundred and fifty, Congress has authorized the Manila Railroad Company to extend its lines from San Jose, Nueva Ecija, to Aparri, Cagayan;

WHEREAS, the Manila Railroad Company is not in a financial position to undertake the extension of its lines to Cagayan Valley nor is it able to obtain sufficient loans under said Act; and

WHEREAS, it has been a declared policy of the Government that the Manila Railroad Company extend its lines to the Cagayan Valley within a period of five years; Now therefore,

Section 1. The sum of six million pesos is hereby appropriated annually for a period of five years, beginning with the fiscal year nineteen hundred and fifty-seven - nineteen hundred and fifty-eight, out of any funds in the National Treasury not otherwise appropriated, for the extension by the Manila Railroad company of its lines from the Municipality of San Jose, Nueva Ecija, to the Municipality of Tuguegarao, Province of Cagayan.

Section 2. The amount made available for expenditure for each fiscal year under the provisions of this Act shall be converted into subscription by the Government in the capital stock of the Manila Railroad Company.

Section 3. To enable it to carry out the objectives of this Act and to meet its requirements, the Manila Railroad Company is hereby authorized to receive an annual allocation of twelve million pesos of reparations from Japan for a period of four years from the date of approval of this Act.

Section 4. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.

REPUBLIC ACT NO. 470

REPUBLIC ACT NO. 470 - AN ACT TO AUTHORIZE THE MANILA RAILROAD COMPANY TO INCUR AN INDEBTEDNESS OF FORTY-FIVE MILLION PESOS FOR THE REHABILITATION, RESTORATION AND EXTENSION OF ITS LINES

Section 1. The Manila Railroad Company is hereby authorized to incur an indebtedness not exceeding forty-five million pesos from any funds under the control of the Government or of any corporation of instrumentality owned or controlled by the Government, on the guarantee of the Government of the Republic of the Philippines, at such shall be agreed upon at the time of entering into each loan contract, for the rehabilitation and restoration of its branch lines from Ligao to Tabaco, Albay, Calamba, Laguna to Batangas, Batangas and from any point in Albay Province to Sorsogon as deemed advisable and feasible by the company or in such other places as the company may deem fit to reestablish its branch lines, extension of its terminal at San Jose, Nueva Ecija, to Daet, Camarines Norte, to Echague, Isabela, to Aparri, Cagayan, to Tagudin, Vigan, Sinait, Ilocos Sur, or any extension of its lines at such other points as the company may deem convenient and suitable for its business, purchase of locomotives, cars, rails, ties and other equipment and accessories of railroad transportation, and for any other purposes of the Manila Railroad Company including the development and promotion of the tourist industry in the Philippines: Provided, That the extension of its terminal shall not be placed within one hundred meters, parallel to any national highway.

Section 2. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.

MRR Medal Collection



Laguna Railways will feature within the next few weeks MRR medals. The medal above is the Carlos Garcia Sorsogon Railroad Extension commemorative medal dated September 10, 1961. The plan was to build a railroad to Sorsogon. The railroad existed only as a law and commemoratives.

Cebu Train

Cebu Railway is now history like the photo above but if the two congressmen and their constituents will have their way, a new Light Rail Transport System will be constructed along the eastern part of the island. House bill no. 310 was filed by Congressman Eduardo R. Gullas while House Bill no. 432 creating the the Cebu Light Rail Transport was filed by Congressman Raul V. Del Mar.
